We appreciate everyone helping each year with our Open Farm Day! Without your help we can’t do this on our own.
We could use help in a few different areas. Chris and I jump in to take over positions when we can but we are usually running back and forth handling problems or answering questions. We appreciate all the wonderful volunteers every year to help us run this event.
We also could use individuals to just watch over everything. If you see someone entering an area they shouldn’t or doing something they shouldn’t, feel free to speak up and correct them for us!
This year I created a sign up form. If you know there is a particular time you are available to help, please click on the time slot and sign up. This will help me know what spots I need to find more help for. If you can help for more than an hour, just choose more than one spot. But don’t be shy to reach out to me and say you can help whenever because I will find a spot for you. Even if a slot is full, I can have you on backup because you never know when someone might get sick & unable to come.
I would like everyone to come to the assigned spot at least 5 to 10 minutes before your time so the person before you can show you how to run the spot
Areas where we need help and job description:
*Sell Feed – We will have two tables setup to sell feed. Table #1 will be near the goat and sheep barn. Table #2 will be in the west driveway. When you sell feed, we always instruct people to place the feed in their hands, do not hand them the cup because they will take it, and return the cup when they are finished. Feed is $1 & $.50 a cup.
*Help with baby goats & lambs – This will be inside the goat and sheep barn. We like to have someone stand at the gate to let people in and out but try to make sure no babies escape. A few will probably sneak through the fence back with moms but we just don’t want them out in the main walking area. You will also help monitor how many kids/adults are in the pen at a time. Try to keep it under 10 people at a time so the babies don’t get overwhelmed. Also help grab babies if someone is having trouble catching one.
*Help with rabbits – this is a pretty easy one. Just monitor that the kids aren’t picking up the rabbits. We don’t want someone getting scratched. If you feel confident in your rabbit skills, your welcome to pick them up and hold them for people to pet easier.
*Help with calves – I will have a pen with at least one calf in it. Basically your just there to make sure the calf doesn’t try to jump out on the kids. Or let Chris or I know if it looks like the calf is getting stressed. We will switch it out with a different calf.
*Parking Attendant – We would love to have someone early on trying to help direct traffic to make sure everyone is finding a spot to park. When the lot at the house gets full, then we would love to have someone at the end of the drive telling people they can go park at the top of the hill. Whoever signs up for the 9a slot, I would love to have you there at 8:30. It just didn’t let me set a different time for that slot.
